Zoe Saldana is the child of Asalia Saldana and Aridio Nazario. Zoe was born in Passaic (New Jersey) on June 19th, 1978. Her mother and father have both been Puerto Ricans. Her family was raised by her mother in Queens. At the age of 10, old the family were relocated to the Dominican Republic, where they lived for the next seven years. Zoe developed a passion for dance performance while living in Dominican Republic. Her first training was with the ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy, where she studied ballet and other forms of dance. The training she received was not just an excellent opportunity for this energetic and eager young person, but it also served as a great preparation for her acting profession. Zoe's family and she moved back to United States when Zoe was seventeen years old. The passion for dance and a desire to be on stage grew. Zoe not only held her own, but has also earned respect from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Keira, Knightley, Ashton Kutcher and Orlando Bloom.
