Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop that not only drew attention to Latin Music, but as well reggaeton. In 2015 there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). A few performers of reggaeton have criticized the shift to popular music by 2020. A new group, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the development and growth of reggaeton.
